GENERAL

What is "Ravnica Guilds"?
Ravnica Guilds is a panfandom dreamwidth rpg based on the world created by Wizards of the Coast set in the realm of Ravnica, a plane in the Magic the Gathering series, before the canonical ‘War of the Spark’. Characters are sorted into "guilds" and take part in the day to day functioning of the world, events, problems, solutions and anything else that comes under that umbrella.

Is the game canon to the Ravnica storyline?
Yes and no. We intend to take some aspects of the Ravnica storyline/canon to help set up the foundation of the game, but the majority of it will be markedly AU to allow for the influence of PCs, our own NPCs and other plots that will take place. Some things will therefore be familiar to anyone comfortable with the MtG canon but otherwise it will be our own take and adaptation of the franchise.

How much do I need to know about Magic the Gathering?
Very little! All the information you need will be in the different pages set up for the game and anything else will be explained as part of the world-building/plotting process. Ravnica is a fantasy-esque world mixed with magic and technology, so it should be simple enough to find a footing. If not you are more than welcome to ask us specific questions and we will do our best to answer.

What is the "Guildpact"?
The Guildpact is an ancient piece of magic that serves as the basis of law in Ravnica. The magic of the Guildpact was re-established in a human being, Planeswalker Jace Beleren, known as the "Living Guildpact", though he is rarely seen on Ravnica. Anything he verbally confirms is turned into binding law.

What are the activity requirements?
One network/log post OR six network comments OR three log comments. All proofs should be from the month of AC, but the thread/post can be from any date.

APPLICATIONS

What characters can I app?
Currently you may app canon characters, malleable protagonists (such as from the Dragon Age or Persona franchisees) and original characters, including original characters native to the world of Ravnica.

Are any Magic the Gathering characters unable to be apped?
Yes! For now the list includes: Jace, Nicol Bolas and any major character associated with the running of Ravnican guilds (e.g. Guildmasters).

Are multiple versions of characters allowed? (E.g. MCU vs comics)
Currently, no.

Are CRAUs permitted?
Not at the moment.

What can characters bring with them?
Characters may bring anything they had on their person before they arrived - e.g. clothing, weaponry, backpacks with items, tools, etc.

My character needs a certain thing/medicine/item to survive. Will they have it in the game?
This can be dealt with on a case by case basis. In most cases, the Izzet League will provide whatever item the character needs in order to survive upon their arrival and introduction to a guild.

What will happen to my characters' powers?
Characters will be able to keep their powers - for the most part. For characters that might have world or game breaking powers some nerfing might be requested to ensure that the game itself is not destroyed, but for the most part characters will retain their powers as normal.

GAME INFO

What is a Worldwalker/Planeswalker?
A "Planeswalker" is one of the most powerful beings in the Magic the Gathering multiverse. They are able to travel between worlds once their "spark" ignites, a one in a million event that is incredibly rare. PCs that arrive into the game (apped in characters) will arrive and be known as a "worldwalker" - a less powerful version of a planeswalker that isn't currently understood.

How do characters arrive?
Characters feel a burning sensation in their chest and their vision goes white, almost as if a hot flame has exploded in front of them. When they wake up they are in a chamber in Ravnica ready to be sorted into their guild. Characters and NPCs currently do not understand how these characters are brought to Ravnica; it is understood as something that is simply "happening" that they are currently investigating.

Can characters leave?
Not consciously, no. Attempting to use magic or other powers to try and leave the universe will end in failure. Should a character be dropped, however, their leaving will be very similar to their arrival - a hot white flash in front of their eyes before they return to their original world.

What happens when characters first arrive?
Characters arrive in the Worldwalker Citadel, a large, round building with a clerk from each Guild present. They are spoken to, asked a handful of questions and then encouraged to join the guild best recommended to them - although they can choose to be guildless and accept the consequences of that choice. After that they are free to begin their life in the city.

Does my character have to be a member of a guild?
No! Your character can choose to be guildless if that better suits them, but they will not gain the benefit or protection of being a member of the guild and possible rewards/boons from guild envoys.

How do characters communicate with one another?
Upon arrival characters are given a tome by a representative from the Izzet League. This tome is capable of transmitting written word, speech and an awkward but working video feed.

Where will my character live?
The guilds have build housing for all Worldwalker characters in the midst of the districts and all characters will be granted housing in that location regardless of their guild ties.

How do characters travel in Ravnica?
Teleportation! Each precinct has a teleportation circle that you can use to travel between each area, including the Citadel.

How do player plots/player inputs work?
Players will be able to submit ideas and plot requests on an upcoming plotting page.

Not planning on using this account... can we app original characters from existing worlds that are not Ravnica? For instance, if I want to bring in my D&D character from the Forgotten Realms, is that allowed? (Or for that matter, original characters from any canon setting, but I'm more interested in TTRPG ones.)

Hello!

I don't see it mentioned anywhere in the FAQ, but are characters from MtG who are canonically dead able to be apped? I play several characters (including Urza here) from the Weatherlight saga, and I'm giving some thought on apping one of them.

Are characters who initially decide to be guildless later able to join a guild?

Hello! Sorry if I missed this somewhere, but I didn't see it here on on the application page, so - how many characters are we allowed to app for per app cycle?
